Broncos 30, Cardinals 16: Bo Nix's 62-Yard TD Run Sparks Denver's Fifth Win

By , BroncosLand ·

The Denver Broncos beat the Arizona Cardinals 30-16 at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, and the play that turned it was Bo Nix's 62-yard touchdown run late in the first half. It's Denver's third straight win, and the Broncos improve to five wins and two losses (2-2 on the road). Arizona falls to two wins and five losses and is still winless at home.

How it happened: Neither offense found the end zone early. Wil Lutz hit field goals of 48 and 43 yards in the first quarter, and Chad Ryland answered with kicks of 30 and 26 yards to tie it midway through the second. Then Nix pulled the ball and ran 62 yards for a touchdown with 3:43 left in the half, and Denver took a seven-point lead into the break. Nix found RJ Harvey for a 52-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Trey McBride caught a 7-yard touchdown from Jacoby Brissett to cut it to a one-score game, but J.K. Dobbins scored from a yard out on the last play of the third quarter. Lutz added a 31-yarder in the fourth, and Ryland's 41-yard field goal was Arizona's last score.

By the numbers: Nix went 15-of-29 for 222 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, and ran 7 times for 73 yards and a touchdown. Jonah Coleman, back from injured reserve, ran 9 times for 54 yards. Harvey caught 2 passes for 54 yards, and Marvin Mims Jr. had 2 catches for 53. Denver ran for 159 yards to Arizona's 94 and outgained the Cardinals 377 to 353. Neither team turned it over. Alex Singleton led the defense with 19 tackles and a sack, and Brandon Jones added 9 tackles. For Arizona, Brissett threw for 272 yards on 27-of-48 passing, and McBride caught 10 passes for 111 yards.

Our Take: This was not a clean offensive day, with Nix completing barely half his throws, but Denver won the explosive plays, didn't turn it over and got off the field. The Broncos did it without Pat Surtain II, and a defense that held Arizona to three field goals and one touchdown deserves the credit. Nix's legs were the difference, and that's a weapon Denver should keep using.

Injuries: Pat Surtain II, Talanoa Hufanga, Tyler Onyedim and Sam Ehlinger were out. Jaylen Waddle was questionable and played. We'll update with any in-game injuries once the team reports them.

What's next: The Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2:25 PM MT.
