Remembering Cornell Green, Longtime Broncos Scout and 2010 AFC Scout of the Year, 1940-2026
Cornell Green (1940-2026), who spent 28 years scouting for the Broncos, has died at 86, the team announced Wednesday.
Green came to Denver in 1987 to join his former Cowboys teammate Dan Reeves, and he stayed through May 2015. Over that stretch the Broncos won 11 division titles, six AFC Championships and three Super Bowls, and his reports were behind a lot of the players who got them there. In 2010 the Fritz Pollard Alliance named him AFC Scout of the Year. "He has had his stamp on just about everybody we have brought in here," former GM Ted Sundquist said in 2005.
Before all that, Green was a Utah State basketball All-American who never played college football. He became a five-time Pro Bowl defensive back in Dallas and won Super Bowl VI. Our sister site has the full story of his playing career: Remembering Cornell Green on CowboysOfDallas.
Our Take: Broncos fans may not know his name, but they know his work. Our thoughts are with the Green family.
